Otley is a town, within Yorkshire in England. Situated on the River Wharf within the Lower Wharfedale Valley and only 10 miles from Leeds. Otley’s first main industry was in wool, after the Industrial Revolution, mills were built using steam power and so began cotton, weaving, wool-combing and a paper mill, a Tannery was built in the 19th century and then the Wharfedale Printing Machine (developed by William Dawson & David Payne), which became Otley’s most valued industry, examples are showcased in the Otley Museum, which depicts the history of Otley. Chevin Forest Park looks over the town and some of the streets are recognisable from TV shows such as Emmerdale, Heart Beat and The Chase. Otley is also known for the watercolours commissioned by J.M.W Turner and the famous furniture maker, who was born here - Thomas Chippindale. Otley is Eco Cycle Adventures friendly and even boasts its own Otley Cycle Club.
