Newcastle is a city in Tyne & Wear, North East England. Situated on the River Tyne, Newcastle is a vibrant metropolitan city, boasting 7 magnificent bridges which unites the city with Gateshead. The Tyne Bridge was opened in 1928 and the most recent addition was the Millenium Bridge a pedestrian & cyclist tilt bridge, was added in 2001. The history of Newcastle upon Tyne dates back almost 2,000 years, during which time it has seen Roman, Saxon and Danish rule amongst others. Newcastle’s Castle Keep is a relic, one of the only Northern Keep's still in existance, but it’s modern Newcastle which impresses today's visitor. The Sage Gateshead, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art and the Angel of the North, draw tourists far and wide to this city.
