Melrose Abbey, dating back to 1136, when on the request of King David I of Scotland, was founded by cistercian monks. It’s here that the embalmed heart of Robert the Bruce is buried. Melrose is also the birth place of Rugby Sevens & has its own team, Melrose RFC. June is a busy month, when the Melrose festival and the Borders Book festival takes place. Melrose is Eco Cycle Adventures friendly.
