Holy Island
Holy Island
Holy Island is situated off the coast of Northumberland and is overlooked by Bamburgh. It was here that during 635AD that Saint Aiden decided to build the Lindisfarne Priory and remains of which can still be seen. The Island can be accessed by a causeway, but is cut off from land twice a day by the tide. There is a statue of St Aiden on Holy Island which is visited by many on pilgrimages still today and the Island is the end point for people walking the St Cuthbert’s Way.
