Hayton

Hayton is a small village in Cumbria, England. The village is situated about 8 miles from Cumbria’s county town of Carlisle and only 10 miles south of the Scottish border, due to its landscape the area was once heavily farmed and the village name Hayton means hay farm. Here is Edmond Castle, it was designed by the then ‘leading architect’ Robert Smirke between 1824 and 1829 and was the original seat of the Grahams of Edmond Castle, but has since become Edmond Castle Country House Hotel. Also here is a 19th Century Inn - The Stone Inn offers a friendly atmosphere and home cooked fare.
