Hawes is town in North Yorkshire, England. At 850 feet above sea level, Hawes is England’s highest market town and the River Ure runs north of the town and is near to the fantastic Kidstones Pass, which connects Buckden, Cray in upper Wharfedale with Bishopdale and Wensleydale. Hawes, meaning ‘pass between the mountains’, stands between Buttertubs and Fleetmoss making it one of the most desired places to visit in the Yorkshire Dales. Hawes stands at the head of Wensleydale, home to the famous Wensleydale Creamery, where you can visit the history and heritage of cheese making in the visitors centre and museum. Other attractions include Aysgarth Falls and Hardraw Falls which at 100 feet is England’s highest and was made famous when it featured in the film – Robinhood Prince of Theives, also in Hawes is the 19th century Gayle Mill, now a visitor centre, restored to bring life back to what was once a flourishing raw cotton mill and later a mechanised saw mill.
