Haltwhistle
Haltwhistle
Haltwhistle ‘the centre of Britain’ is a small town in Northumberland, England. The town grew from coal mining through the 18th & 19th century and due to it being situated along the Newcastle – Carlisle road and the Newcastle – Carlsle railway, it also acted as an export point for the metal ores coming out of Alston Moor. The most extraordinary find here was the discovery oy a copper vessel, containing coins of significance during roman times. Three of the coins were gold, displaying Claudius Caesar, Nero Claudius Drusus Germanicus, Nero and Vespasian. Haltwhistle is a great tourist town and stopping place for people visiting Hadrian’s Wall, walkers & ramblers alike.
