Fort Agustus
Fort Agustus
Fort Agustus is situated south west of Loch Ness in the Scottish Highlands. The village was given its name after the 1715 Jacobite uprising and a fort was built. There is little left of the fort, but some of the original structure was built into the Benedictine Abbey, which is now luxury apartments situated on the shore Loch Ness. The Caledonian Canal runs directly through the village, part of a 60 mile system that links Inverness to Fort William – the history of the Canal is documented in the Caledonian Canal Heritage Centre. Also here is The Clansman Centre - offering an experience of highland life dating 500 years, Rare Breeds Croft and the Moriston Falls – river of waterfalls.
