Egremont is on the River Eden within Cumbria, England. Situated only 5 miles from Whitehaven, Egremont lies at the foot of the Uledale Valley and Dent Fell. The strong industrial past of this market town includes dying and weaving and it is the home to the last operational iron ore mine in Western Europe. The Florence mine eventually closed in 2008. Egremont Castle be seen from the main street and was built around about 1130. Later, the town was devastated by attacks from Robert the Bruce and the castle left to ruin. To see here is the Lowes Court Gallery, St Michael and St Mary’s Church and not forgetting the Crab & Sports Fair. One of the longest running in the world, the fair dates back to 1267
