Bishop Auckland
Bishop Auckland
Bishop Aucland is a town in Durham, England. Known as the gateway to Weardale, it is set against the banks of the River Wear. The Bishop Auckland Town Hall has been transformed into a cultural hub and hosts the town library, cinema, arts complex and theatre. Auckland Castle is within walking distance of the town and although it is the home of Bishop of Durham, the beautiful grounds and 800 acres of deer park are open to the public to enjoy. Also nearby, is Binchester Roman Fort, one of the best preserved Roman military bath houses in Britain and at nearby Escomb there is Escomb Saxon Church, a fine example of 7th century Christian architecture. Bishop Auckland is Eco Cycle Adventures friendly.
