Berwick-upon-Tweed
Berwick-upon-Tweed

Berwick upon Tweed, the most northern town in England and still within Northumberland, lies only 2 ½ miles south of the Scottish border. The market town of Berwick has seen through its ages a fair share of trouble and was fought over by the kingdom of Scotland and he Kingdom of England until it was eventually settled as English in 1482. Elizabethan Walls remain here as evidence of the wars and an annual event, Riding of the Bounds, is performed, historically protecting the town from Scot’ invasion. Malters Theatre and Art Centre and the Gymnasium Art Gallery are also worth a visit here. Berwick-upon-Tweed is Eco Cycle Adventures friendly.
